So, what would you all say is your current addiction? What would you say is the 'must see' that you have just seen?

Just pause the T.V./puter long enough to type in a name or so.

I'm jonsin' for something new or re-released. So Share!

    Kino
    Haibane Renmei
    Blue Seed

    Cowboy Bebop
    NeiA_7

    Hmmm... I really enjoyed:

Matentei Loki Ragnarok (Seems very fluffy at first, but there is a lot of darker things swirling under all that fluff...it really sucked me in).

    Beck

Spiral (It's a good watch, but it has one of those ambiguous endings and you never find out a lot of the secrets, apparently they got ahead of the manga author)

    Perfect Blue

St. Luminous (The first few episodes look like a dating sim, but it's really a good supernatural story with a neat ending).

Kimi Ga Nozumi Eien (I had no idea a dating sim turned anime could be that emotionally involving, and PAINFUL. I hurt with the characters).

Paranoia Agent. That just started on Adult Swim this week and I'm morbidly fascinated with it.

It's so weird and mesmerizing. I enjoyed it.

I have been catching this really strange anime called mirage of blaze. It's very interesting and I can't seem to look away. It has been run on wam! cable channel after Vandread -- another awesome anime.

      Enjoy

For some reason, Blood: The Last Vampire sticks with me.

I think its because its not a typical story, but a slice out of the life of an unusual being. It starts with open ends and ends with open ends.

I really appreciate the intensity of the character, from the perpetual scowl on her face, to her complete silence as she rushes into a room.slices a vampire in two, to her solitude as she walks around a military base with a sword hidden in a case under her arm.

My favorites are Slayers, Photon and Maze. The new Appleseed in Awesome. My hubby has been addicted to Kiddy Grade, recently. I just saw the ROD movie which was very good also.

Ahmm no Tv for me, so mostly movies/rentals:

-"The place promised in our early days"
( you should check this out if you liked voices from a distant star, which I think is great)

      - "Dead leaves", completely insane.

-And I know this is sligthly unrelated, but found out about "Drawn together " on comedy central and became instantly addicted.

Okay Kids Hello From Rogue Land this months new anime to take a look at are

Fate Stay Night available from Mahou look for them by searching
        Moon phase anime bittorrent
Which brings me to my next pick and going to be harder to Download cause it is licensed currently by Funimation is
Tsukuyomi Moon Phase, find it on Limewire although youll be lucky to get it Dowloaded, if you dont mind dubs (and its a good dub funny!) look for it at Suncoast.
Fans of Tsubasa, Im sorry to say will not see a second season unless Dattebayo can find a reliable scripter and subbtitler. Its sad, I love that show if youve got the stuff they need someone who has completed at least 22 episodes of a total series it is not being optioned to any other fan group so please spread the word about this :) have fun and good viewing

I agree with April...Slayers (original series), Photon and Maze and new Appleseed are all awesome! :) I very much want to buy the soundtrack for Appleseed. There's a few good EDM (Electronic Dance Music) artists that have tracks on there.

I recently picked up Full Metal Panic: Fumoffu. I was skeptical at first, but eventually it won me over. At times I couldn't stop laughing. I think its better than the original series.

Okay twice in one month who would have thought?!?!?!

Just DLd Final Fantasy VII Advent Children, huge huge file 700.2MB
but it was well worth it. Thank all that is green and good that Square/Enix learned from the catastophic Spirit within and went back to thye game for story line....I have played the FF franchise ( beaten the snot out of evey one) since it came out on Nintendo way back in the two button days
The movie did the game, squareE, and fans justice...pick it up

    This is mostly reiteration, but...

Paranoia Agent is ill. Also by Satoshi Kon are Perfect Blue, Millenium Actress, and Tokyo Godfathers. I love his artwork and storytelling.
    GunGrave was engrossing.
I just finished Noir, which has some nice twists and a good backstory.
I can watch Neon Genesis Evangeleon over, and over, and over, and over and still be captivated each time I watch it.
I'm trying to get into Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, but I'm having trouble. I loved both movies, but the series isn't doing it for me. Maybe it's time to try again!
    Samurai Champloo was great, too.
Not anime but still Japanese and VERY worth it is Kamikaze Girls--very campy and fun.

In the not Japanese, but still in the anime vein -- I'm really enjoying Avatar: the Last Airbender.

Just watched several episodes of Gokusen and that was fun.
And, as a comparison of manga vs. anime, I've been enjoying the anime version of Hellsing.

      It's all about the Tachikoma!!!

IMHO, the Tachikoma voices are barely listenable in the English dub. They sound too much like women instead of hyperactive children.

if you get into 2nd gig the tachikomas have a better role. They did make them kind of dumb in the first season, but I think later on they make the Tachikomas smart as hell. They get upgrades.

I just finished the 2nd gig and I really liked the end. I thought it was perhaps better than the 1st gig.

I'm midway through S.A.C. 2 right now. It's a much more compact storyline than S.A.C. 1 and I'm enjoying it immensely. But I don't think anything's going to top the Tachikoma's moment in SAC1 when they sacrificed themselves to rescue Batou...

Also I'm noting the Tachikoma are "female". At least they speak with feminine particles sometimes.

Oof! IMHO, ALL English dub is unlistenable. The only exceptions for me that squeek by are the Studio Ghibli dubs. Princess Monoke was good in English, but for me Japanese with subs is the only way to go!

GITS english dub is top notch. In fact all GITS tv and movies have excellent dubs. I wouldnt even watch it in japanese, because I like the major's english voice so much. Batou too.

But I really dig Junko Mizuno. She needs to get to work on Toon Boom

    www.h4.dion.ne.jp/~mjdotcom/

Junko Mizuno (水野純子, Mizuno Junko; May 27, 1973- starsign gemini, blood type o) is a Japanese artist. She debuted in 1996 with a booklet called MINA animal DX. Her drawing style mixes childish sweetness and cuteness with blood and terror -a so-called kawaii noir style-. She describes her artwork as "The Powerpuff Girls on acid.". Besides her comics, sometimes published in color, she designs T-shirts, calendars, postcards, and other collectibles. Mizuno has participated at Angoulême International Comics Festival. In the U.S., Viz Comics has published some of her work.

not really "anime" but damn cool (like I said she needs to get down with Toon Boom)

I just finished Noein - better than most anime I've seen in a long time. Extremely enjoyable, great animation, your typical fantasy/ sci-fi plot. I couldn't get into the characters as much as, say, 'Escaflowne', 'Fushigi Yuugi' and certainly not 'Macross Plus'. (However, most anime doesn't deliver that standard of character-driven plot).

Noein is definitely worth checking out. Arguably (arguably) the best thing that's come out in 2006.

As for older titles, I highly recommend checking out a little-known series that came out in the early naughts, 'Now and Then, Here and There'. It's like Noein in theme, but richer, deeper - and mostly hand-drawn! (Sorry, but cell-shading CG makes me feel like they're cheating!)

If you like plot, have you seen Elfen Lied? It was so good!!

Currently I'm enjoying Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok. It's light and easy, and cracks me up with the crosscultural interpretation. We have also started Baki The Grappler. It's more intense, but I'm unsure of where the plot will go. I am also enwrapped in Narutaru shadow star. That one seems really well put together so far and has peaked my curiousity to a point of addiction. I hope it will continue to engage me!

      Enjoy the day

    Naruto ~ Hatake Kakashi Rules!

It's on youtube. It's about a Shinigami (Death God) that gets bored and drops his Death Note (book that you write humans names in to cause their deaths) in our world and what happens when the kid who finds it realizes he can use it. It is phenomenal^_^

I just saw Paprika and it was brilliant.Im always amazed by Satoshi Kon.The story is complex. You get sucked into a world of other peoples dreams. The story is about a machine that allows therapist to enter other peoples dreams but then the machine gets stolen and all hell breaks loose I heard someone say "this is your brain on anime" describing the story. Its currently playing at the Kabuki cinema in San Francisco

Neon Genesis Evangelion (I like it much better than Gundam)
    Akira (classic)
    Appleseed
Ghost in the Shell (In all it's incarnations)
    Anything by Hideo Miyazaki
    Ranma 1/2
    Hellsing
    Vampire Hunter D
Tenchi (not a big fan of the Tokyo series but it's okay)
Space Battleship Yamato (aka Starblazers in US release)
    Jubei Ninpucho (aka Ninja Scroll)
    Golgo 13
I've got others that I really like but I think that's a good introduction.

I am currently watching "Claymore" and am liking it a bit. Simple, well-drawn, ass-kicking underdog in a medieval setting.

I am also keeping up with the "Maria-Sama ga Miteru" OVAs - this has been my top favorite anime for character development.

    Past must-sees for me:
    Haibane Renmei
    Noir
    Wolf's Rain
    Fullmetal Alchemist

Lots of good stuff in this thread. I've enjoyed Bleach, Noein, Ergo Proxy, anything GITS. I didn't care for Moon Phase (although I got to meet the character designer last year so I checked it out), or Fafner (okay, I watched the entire series but it was way weepy).
  • Re: Current favorites or must see!

Okay my favorites...in no particular order...Yuu Yuu Hakusho, Death Note (manga only), Wolf's Rain (anime only), FLCL, Paranoid Agent, and anything Miyazaki-san comes out with...personally I'm really picky lately and it really takes a lot now for an anime or manga to catch my attention and become my favorite (Death Note was a fave...until my favorite character died in book 7 or 8 then his two "replacements" just didn't cut it for me, not a good as the character I will not name in case someone hasn't read).

Recently at my university's anime club we watched "Seirei no Moribito" (Guardian of the Sacred Spirit). It came out in Japan on April 7, 2007 and somehow a member got the entire series just as it ended in Japan. It only has 26 episodes. The art is beautiful and the music is lovely (L'arc en Ciel does the opening theme so that's a plus in my book). Here's a synopsis of the story:

Balsa the spearwoman is a wandering warrior, who takes on the task of saving lives in atonement for a past sin. On her journey, she happens to save Prince Chagum and is tasked with becoming his bodyguard by his mother.... and he is going to need one, for his own father, the emperor, wants him dead due to he believes there is a water demon within the boy, and the water demon is trying to get revenge on the emperor because of his ancestors rose to power by killing the forementioned water demon.

With my pickiness, I like the story, but I'm not addicted by it. The art is great, and the music is great, the characters are interesting, so someone else here might just get hooked.
