I was on IMDB last night and I saw that they were making Akira into a live action movie! I'm not too sure what to think of it since they want to get Leonardo Decaprio and Joseph Gordon Levitt to be in it. What do you guys think?

Tue, March 25, 2008 - 1:23 AMI know Akira is a classic but I thought it was fairly lame. I don't really care what it inspired. Just like Kurosawa is a great director and is copied often but half his movies put me to sleep.
Speaking of director's, did you follow the IMDB link for him? He has zip credits and something that looks like a credit for using an animation package and 2 credits for title sequences. After Catch Me If You Can and The Departed, I have no problem with DiCaprio. And JGL is doing a good job picking the films he's in. Both these guys are listed as rumored and not cast.

Mon, April 28, 2008 - 5:11 PMshouldn't they get kids from Asia to play? Decaprio is like 29 tetsuo and kanada were 15 and 16.

Re: Akira
Tue, April 29, 2008 - 12:25 AMThere are tons of alleged anime and game remakes floating around out there. Once in awhile one will actually materialize, like Dead or Alive. -______-; Best to just ignore them.

Re: Akira
Fri, June 13, 2008 - 9:11 AMI don't think the story will hold up at all in movie form. I own Akira, and I don't watch it as much, as say GITS or Star Wars etc. Its not a classic storyline. It is a genre film with high technical achievement for its time.
Akira is closer to the (old) cyberpunk/cyborg movement which is dead. In comparison, Ghost in the Shell is more modern and relevant which is why it would be a better movie.
Also, to make Tetsuo realistic and scary, it will need the budget of Pirates of the Carribean. Otherwise, akira will look cheesy like Hulk.
